BUILDING CULTURAL CONFIDENCE: Cultural Obligations and Responsibilities

SHARING NGARLUMA CULTURE

This workshop was developed with one of my Mothers, Lorice Douglas, in 2018, with the intent of providing attendees with more Cultural Learning, that builds on their Foundations Cultural Learning. This workshop seeks to take attendees into our Family and Community to provide an insight into our identity; country; family roles; community roles; and offer a level of learning that will give attendees the confidence to engage with Aboriginal peoples. The cultural example used is specific to mine and my Mums identity. In this workshop we run two activities that teach attendees about the Aboriginal lore that governs Pilbara Aboriginal people, called Gahlarra.

Through this workshop, we provide attendees with strategies to address conflicts between cultural obligations/ responsibilities and other obligations such as attending school/ work every day; or attending appointments.
